Besides the fact that the i8 would be better off dancing with the Cayman and others in their tier, 427CID is bang-on. Here’s how I tiered supercars. Shown above is tier 1-B, and below, should you choose to click further, is tier 1-A. Prices and ratings are entirely arbitrary; I made them up .

OK, so tiering the Huayra along with the Aventador and the F12 is pretty controversial, but I explicitly wanted to group the top V12-powered cars past the Ferrari Enzo together in one class, because V12 and nothing more.

Note that I grouped the New Ford GT, C7 Z06, and Viper in one tier.

This class is loosely based on these two WGDR’s.

All non-hybrid V12-powered cars only.

Surprised to see heavyweights tiered higher than the 458? Yeah, me too.

Here’s where the New NSX is tiered.

I specified this exact 650S.
Ihave my reasons and I find it valid.

In hindsight, maybe a Panamera Turbo and Tesla Model S P90D should sit where the Spyker C8 and the RS7 is.

Oh no wait I think I mis-classed the 12C! Yeah, I did. The Charger Hellcat should be here, and the 12C in the C1 class together with the 458, R35 and LFA.

Proposed supercar metric: (avg HP across top 4k rpm)/(weight^x) . This punishes torqueless vertical power curves, and x in the 1.1-1.5 range should punish heavy cars since they lose on handling & braking as well as acceleration.
Proposed real-world metric: (avg HP across top 4k rpm)*mpg/(weight^x)
This rewards the ability to get the most power out of a given amount of fuel, rather than a meaningless measure like displacement. Dividing by a price unit would also give you a bang per buck component.

This. This I approve.
But keep the non-hybrid V12’s alone. They’re one tier. And just one tier.
That out of the way, which car goes on which tier based on your calculations?

Dunno, I’ve tossed around HP*mpg as a better “magazine metric” than HP/L, and power/weight is good for acceleration but neglects weight’s disproportionate impact on the rest of performance.
I’d have to make a spreadsheet and back into an appropriate exponent, which would inevitably be subjective. To me, 350hp / 3200lbs beats 450hp / 4000lbs despite having worse power:weight, but I wouldn’t give up as much as the Miata kids so a 2700lb car would need 250+ to interest me.
